From Dirtwitch:

Here's the meme: Comment and I will give you a letter. Then, write 10 things that you love starting with that letter. Post the list in your journal. Give out letters to your commenters.

I have been given the letter "A."  I assume that trolling a dictionary is cheating.  Here goes.

Albatross -- Symbol of good luck and bad judgment.  Amazing bird.  And the first thing that leaped to mind.

Armadillo -- Allegedly made from mammal, this aspiring street pizza looks a bit like a dinosaur.  I reckon the street pizza thing is a side effect of drinking too much Lone Star.

Armillary sphere -- For keeping the obliquity of your ecliptic in line, my brother.

A5 -- The power chord without which there would be no "La Grange" by ZZ Top.

Atmosphere -- It's not just for restaurants anymore.

Ambergris -- On the one hand, it's amazing that a substance that is essentially sperm whale crap would turn out to be a key ingredient in perfumes and incense.  On the other hand, it's amazing that human beings would be so short-sighted and benighted as to hunt and kill something as wonderful as a sperm whale just to spray some of its crap on their pulse points.  Or maybe it's not amazing.  Maybe it's just real fucking sad.

Amaz!ng -- Not just "amazing," but Amaz!ng, as in The Amaz!ng Meeting.  Yes, it really is astonishing.

Astounding -- Now called Analog, Astounding was the magazine in which John W. Campbell gave so many great SF writers their first start in the business. (Interesting how many "A" words exist to mean something like "really cool.")

Aquilonia -- The mythical nation conquered by Conan in his later years.

Axon -- The great big long part of a neuron that carries a signal to the dendrites of the next neuron.  I'm guessing this is also the part that invaded Spock's nervous system that time he was attacked by a large flying fried egg.
